Exactly What Is Wrong With Market Research (And Web 2.0 To Boot!)

web20-survey

Over the years I have conducted more than my fair share of online surveys and have seen a lot of garbage. I’ve made so much sausage that I frankly have a hard time taking many “stats” seriously. The people responding are often in it for a quick buck, and most researchers don’t do the back end work to root them out.

And then there are the problems with the survey design itself. And while I’ve again seen a lot of crap questions, this one — passed along by a friend completing a survey — takes the cake. I won’t get into technical problems with the survey since I’m sure it will bore you, but it does beg the question: Are there other Webs we’re not privy to? What about Web 4.0!?!

I can’t wait until the results get picked up on TechCrunch. “Breaking News: 40% Of People Are Web 3.0!”

  • Gil, this is getting dangerously close to advertising . . . I'll let it stand this time, but I'm watching out for your comments. :)
  • Oliver -- I'm sure you would not believe this if I did not have a link, but I do. "Web 4.0"

Full Disclosure: Dr. Jair Jehuda is my first cousin, His is brilliant, adorable, and wonderful. I truly love and admire him personally and professionally. Moreover, he has the ability to make intellectual and conceptual leaps that turn great ideas into practical business. His products are very cool and have proved to be valuable in the most interesting areas of business.

So I asked him -- what does Web 4.0 mean? and he gave me a great answer. If you are interested in semantic web, business intelligence, semantic wikis and mashups -- drop him a line and ask him what Web 4.0 is all about. Tell him I sent you.
